Njabulo Hlophe

Njabulo Hlophe is a Partner at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in mergers and acquisitions and corporate and commercial law. He focuses on private M&A and general corporate commercial matters, advising on domestic and cross-border transactions across the African continent.

Njabulo has advised Allianz SE on the establishment of a joint venture with Sanlam, intended to combine their African businesses to form the largest non-banking financial services company in Africa, valued at ZAR 33 billion; EDF Renewables South Africa on a joint venture with Anglo American (Envusa Energy) to develop a regional renewable energy ecosystem across 10 African countries; Kuehne + Nagel on the acquisition of Morgan Cargo; Glencore Energy UK on its acquisition of 75% of Chevron South Africa and 100% of Chevron Botswana for USD 973 million; and a consortium comprising Thesele Motors, Mortimer Motors and Hallmark Motors on the acquisition of Bidvest Car Rental (now Bluu Car Rental). He has also advised Vimy Resources on its merger with Deep Yellow, Harith General Partners on the proposed acquisition of 51% of South African Airways, and Steinhoff International on the sell-down of its shareholding in Pepkor Holdings for ZAR 7.3 billion.

Njabulo holds an LL.B (cum laude) from the University of the Witwatersrand and Certificates in Advanced Company Law I and II from the same institution. He is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society and an African Legal Fellow at the Cyrus R. Vance Centre, New York. Having practised at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in New York, he brings international experience and value to his clients.
