Jane Andropoulos

Jane Andropoulos is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution Department and leads the Corporate Risk litigation team at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and white-collar investigations. She advises clients on anti-bribery and corruption, fraud, white-collar misconduct, whistleblowing incidents, and regulatory investigations, including matters involving foreign legislation such as the FCPA and UK Bribery Act.

Jane has acted for a major South African bank for a number of years in a range of high-profile, sensitive matters involving reputational issues, including defending claims under the National Credit Act, successfully opposing sequestration proceedings, obtaining substantial money judgments, and advising on the implementation of freezing orders. She has also acted for an international communications company in making representations to the Zondo Commission regarding state capture allegations; for a former director of African Bank in proceedings before the Commission of Enquiry appointed by the South African Reserve Bank; for an international private equity fund to enforce a guarantee relating to loans made to a listed entity; and for shareholders in disputes involving put and call options, shareholders' agreements, and the Companies Act. In the mining sector, she has acted for an internationally listed shareholder in protecting its rights against syndicated thefts and for shareholders in defeating a claim that a scheme of arrangement had not been properly implemented. She has several litigation firsts to her name, including two punitive costs awards, one of which was the first of its kind in South Africa, being an award of over ZAR 4 million for emotional shock linked to the death of a child at a school.

Jane holds a BA and an LL.B from the University of the Witwatersrand, and has completed an advanced short course in business rescue practice. She was a member of the Bar after completing her pupillage in 1995, returning to the side-bar in 2007.

She has been ranked in Band 5 for Dispute Resolution by Chambers Global (2025–2026) and recognised by Best Lawyers as one of the Litigation Lawyers of the year (2015–2021).
