Mayson Petla

Mayson Petla is a Senior Associate in the Litigation Practice and a member of the Dispute Resolution Department at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and arbitration. He has experience in general corporate and commercial as well as public law litigation, including contractual disputes, interdict applications, damages claims, public procurement disputes, insolvency and business rescue applications, evictions, foreclosures, and mining litigation.

Mayson has acted for a major bank in litigation against a former senior employee concerning the constitutionality of the Register of Employees Dishonesty System administered by the Banking Association of South Africa; for various mining companies in High Court and Labour Court unlawful protest and strike interdict applications; for a mining company in litigation concerning secondary strikes which culminated in a seminal judgment by the Constitutional Court; for the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa and Public Investment Corporation in business restructuring and corporate recoveries matters; and for an information and communications technology company in an unlawful competition and restraint of trade dispute with a competitor and a major pharmaceutical company. He has also conducted litigation by way of arbitration and mediation and has appeared in the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court.

Mayson holds an LL.B from Nelson Mandela University.
