Andrew Lewis

Andrew Lewis is a Director and Location Head of Tax in South Africa at DLA Piper, specialising in tax advisory law. He advises clients on the full range of tax services, including corporate and international tax consulting, indirect tax, financial services tax, employee taxes, and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on local and foreign corporate restructurings.

He has advised Allied Electronics on the estimated ZAR 16 billion de‑merger of Bytes UK (awarded Deal of the Year on Ansandra Dealmakers Awards 2021), Community Investment Ventures Holdings on the ZAR 13.2 billion proposed acquisition by the Vodacom Group of a 30% indirect stake in Vumatel and Dark Fibre Africa, and Thebe Investment Corporation on the ZAR 2.8 billion debt and preference share renewable energies refinancing. He also assists clients with drafting tax opinions, submitting advance tax ruling applications and voluntary disclosure applications, and advising on employee share incentive schemes.

Andrew holds an LL.B (2005) and a BCom Law (2003) from the University of Johannesburg, a Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of Johannesburg (2007), and completed Advanced Company Law I & II at the University of the Witwatersrand (2013). He is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and is ranked in Band 3 in Tax by Chambers Global (2025) and recommended by The Legal 500 (2025).
