Alan Keep

Alan Keep is the Managing Partner of Bowmans' Johannesburg office, practicing in the firm's Tax Advisory Law practice. He specialises in corporate law and tax law, advising on the structuring and implementation of significant black economic empowerment transactions, joint ventures, asset disposals, and acquisitions in the South African market.

Mr. Keep regularly advises major clients including Standard Bank, SABMiller, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, BP, Barloworld, PPC, Anglogold Ashanti, and Marsh. His notable transactions include advising SABMiller on the formation of its African soft drink joint venture with The Coca-Cola Company and the disposal of its strategic stake in Tsogo Sun Limited, advising Fountainhead Property Fund on its acquisition by Redefine, and advising BP on its empowerment transaction with Kapela Investments. He has extensive experience structuring numerous significant B-BBEE transactions in the South African market.

Alan holds B.Com and LLB degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of Johannesburg. He is a member of the International Bar Association, where he has held office within the Tax Committee and presented numerous papers at its annual conference.

He has been included in Legal 500's prestigious 'Hall of Fame' for Tax (2025-2026), having been ranked as a Leading Lawyer in the same category for seven prior years. He was consistently ranked by Chambers and Partners as an Eminent Practitioner in Tax (2016-2020) and has been recognized by Best Lawyers, IFLR1000, and Who's Who Legal.
