Mogola Makola

Mogola Makola is a Partner in the Tax Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in tax advisory law, international tax, and financial services tax. She advises clients on domestic and international tax matters, with a specific interest in the financial services and private equity sectors, covering major M&A transactions, offshore investments, derivative trades, private equity fund formations, and securities lending transactions.

Mogola has advised Ardagh Group on its USD 1 billion acquisition of Consol Holdings; Lanxess on the sale of its 74% stake in a Chrome Mine to Clover Alloys and its chrome chemical business to Brother Enterprises; Rand Merchant Holdings on the unbundling of its shareholding in FirstRand Bank; and an international telecommunications company on its B-BBEE transaction. She also assists clients in tax disputes and has engaged with the National Treasury on proposed tax legislation amendments. Prior to rejoining Bowmans, she served as Chief Officer: Enforcement at the South African Revenue Service (SARS), where she managed Investigative Audit, Criminal Investigations, Anti-Corruption, Compliance Audit, Debt Management, and Illicit Economy units.

Mogola holds a BA and an LL.B from Rhodes University and an LL.M from the University of the Witwatersrand. She serves on Bowmans' Remuneration Committee and the Bowmans Partnership Board.
