Phuti Kgomo

Phuti Kgomo is a Partner in the Tax Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in tax advisory law, corporate tax structuring, and cross‑border transactions. With over a decade of experience in domestic and international corporate tax advisory, he advises clients on corporate tax structuring, B‑B‑BEE transactions, debt restructurings, share incentive schemes, controlled foreign company (CFC) legislation, and the application of double tax agreements.

Phuti has advised Groupe Canal+ SA on its acquisition of MultiChoice Group Limited, which won Deal of the Year at the DealMakers Awards; Boxer Superstores on the tax implications of its share scheme in connection with its JSE listing, the biggest IPO in South Africa since 2017; AECI Limited on the introduction of a new B‑B‑BEE transaction; and TotalEnergies on the tax and exchange control issues arising from its disinvestment of a 36.36% minority stake to the Prax Group. He also advises leading multinationals on exchange control complexities and renewable energy clients on tax structuring and project financing. He acts as counsel for underwriters in warranty and indemnity insured transactions.

Phuti holds a BCom in Accounting, a Bridging Certificate in Theory of Accounting, a BCom Honours in Accounting specialising in Taxation from the University of Johannesburg, and an LL.B from the University of South Africa. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a General Tax Practitioner with the South African Institute of Tax. He is valued by clients for his ability to distil complex issues into practical insights, empowering informed strategic decision‑making.
