Rethabile Shabalala

Rethabile Shabalala is a Senior Associate specialising in insurance law and dispute resolution. She advises and represents insurers, brokers, and the healthcare sector on a wide range of insurance and liability claims, including general liability, assets all risks, business interruption, professional indemnity, directors & officers liability, medical malpractice, personal injury, and reinsurance matters.

She handles complex insurance claims, arbitration proceedings, and provides opinions on coverage issues, while also negotiating settlements and mediating disputes to achieve favourable outcomes for clients. She has litigated in several South African High Courts as well as the Namibian High Courts, and is an advocate for cost‑effective alternative dispute resolution. She is passionate about climate change‑related risks and has contributed to thought leadership platforms focusing on their impact on the insurance industry.

Rethabile holds an LLB from the University of Pretoria (2018).
