Christine Rodrigues

Christine Rodrigues is a Partner in the Banking and Finance department at Bowmans in the Johannesburg office, specialising in Insurance Law. She is an insurance and re‑insurance expert covering both life and non‑life insurance, advising on both contentious and non‑contentious matters.

Christine has worked with major insurers, brokers and industry associations, including a period at a leading South African privately owned insurance group and its Mozambican licensed entity. She advises on regulatory and transactional aspects of insurance matters, including mergers and acquisitions, business transfers and cell captive arrangements. Notable matters include advising Old Mutual on its acquisition of GENRIC Insurance Company, advising Standard Bank Group on the regulatory aspects of its acquisition of Liberty Holdings, and advising MTN (Dubai) on the sale of shares in aYo Holdings. She also handles high‑value disputes, including Directors & Officers liability claims in excess of ZAR150 million and reinsurance claims.

Christine holds a B.Com and B.Com (Hons) in Insurance and Risk Management from the University of the Witwatersrand, and an LL.B. from the University of South Africa.

She is ranked in Band 2 by Chambers Global for Insurance in South Africa (2025–2026).
