Pauline Kumlehn

Pauline Kumlehn is a Partner in Shipping & Logistics (including Customs @ Wylie) at Shepstone & Wylie’s Cape Town office. She specialises in maritime law and litigation as well as customs‑related work. Her practice covers both “wet” and “dry” admiralty litigation, including enforcement of maritime claims in South Africa, judicial sales, and matters consequent to casualties, including access to and preservation of evidence.

She has experience in administrative litigation matters involving state‑owned entities and government departments, including the Minister of Transport and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. As part of the firm’s Customs team, she advises clients across the supply chain, including importers, exporters, clearing agents, and manufacturers, and has dealt with tariff applications and disputes before the South African Revenue Services (SARS), assisting clients with litigation against SARS where required. She is an admitted Conveyancer, a member of the Maritime Law Association of South Africa (MLA), and a member of WISTA South Africa.

Pauline holds a BA (cum laude) from the University of KwaZulu‑Natal (UKZN), an LLB, and an LLM (cum laude) from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
