Michael Maeso

Michael Maeso is a Partner and Head of the Employment Law Department at Shepstone & Wylie in Durban, specialising in employment law and industrial relations. He concentrates on all aspects of employment law litigation, including dismissals, sex and race discrimination claims, restraints of trade, collective bargaining, and strike action.

He spent a year practicing employment law with a prominent London‑based international law firm, where he was involved in the employment aspects of several multi‑jurisdictional transactions and claims before the Employment Tribunal. At Shepstone & Wylie, he advises on employment law issues arising from the sale and purchase of companies and corporate restructurings. He represents parties in the Labour Court, the CCMA, and bargaining councils, and has served as an Acting Judge in the Labour Court.

Michael holds a BA, LLB, and LLM from the University of KwaZulu‑Natal (UKZN), and has completed the Advanced Business Programme.
