Matthew Gibson

Matthew Gibson is a Partner specialising in Banking and Finance Law. He advises lenders and corporate borrowers on bilateral and syndicated facilities, acquisition finance, and other leveraged finance transactions across Sub‑Saharan Africa.

He has been involved in acquisition financing for private equity houses and significant financing transactions in the mining and resources, construction materials, gaming, and healthcare sectors. He has also advised financiers and borrowers on structured loan financings for rolling stock and marine assets, as well as preference share funding for South African subscribers.

Matthew holds an LLB from the University of Cape Town (2005), a B.Bus.Sci (Hons) in Finance from the University of Cape Town (2002), a Certificate in Banking Law from the University of Cape Town (2005), and a Certificate in Company Law from the University of the Witwatersrand (2009). He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.
