Martin Hopkins

Martin Hopkins is Head of Reward Advisory Services at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in employment law and reward advisory. He advises top South African and international companies and their board committees on the full range of compensation matters, including executive remuneration, strategy development, performance management, and employee incentive schemes.

Martin has extensive experience in executive remuneration, incentive remuneration and share scheme design, and has contributed to the drafting of King IV Principle 14 on executive remuneration and the joint IoD/SARA Guidance Notes. He is the current President of the South African Reward Association (SARA) and a Master Reward Specialist. His work includes advising Remuneration Committees, conducting benchmarking and market positioning, job evaluations, reviewing reward policy and governance, designing short-term and long-term incentives, structuring staff B-B-BEE plans, and remuneration reporting in integrated reports.

Martin holds an MSc in Applied Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University, USA, and a BSc and BSc Honours in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, where he won numerous awards including the Chancellor's Medal for Most Distinguished Graduate.
