Jan Norval

Jan Norval is an Executive in the firm's Employment Law practice at ENS, based in South Africa. He specialises in collective and individual labour disputes, collective bargaining, labour policy, administrative law issues, and employment equity, acting for municipal entities, government departments, and clients in the mining, transport, financial, and manufacturing industries.

He advises on retrenchments, dismissal tactics, and professional misconduct matters, and regularly appears in the CCMA, Labour Court, and Labour Appeal Court handling arbitrations, review applications, trials, and restraint of trade matters. He has drafted opinions on trade union rights and advised clients on strategies for trade union interaction, and has provided training on sexual harassment in the workplace to ensure compliance with the Employment Equity Act.

Jan holds an LLB from the University of Pretoria and an LLM from Leiden University in the Netherlands. He is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He has been recognized by Legal 500 as an Employment "Rising Star" (2020-2023).
