Madelein van der Walt

Madelein van der Walt is a Partner at Webber Wentzel, specialising in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate restructurings, and general corporate and commercial law. She advises clients on corporate transactions, JSE listing requirements, takeover regulations, corporate governance, and exchange control matters.

She has extensive experience in advising on complex M&A transactions, corporate restructurings, and regulatory compliance across multiple sectors. She has co‑presented on the GIBS board leadership programmes since 2020 and lectures on corporate governance law on the GIBS MBA programme and the corporate law module of the University of the Free State School of Business MBA. She has published numerous articles on company law, directors' duties, and M&A. She has been recognised by Best Lawyers (2009‑2026), Legal 500 (2021‑2022), and IFLR1000 (2011) as a leading individual in M&A and corporate law.

Madelein holds an LL.M (with merit) from King's College London (2020), an LL.B (cum laude) from the University of the Free State (1995), and a B.Juris (cum laude) from the University of the Free State (1993). She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa. She is a member of the Business Women's Association of South Africa, the International Federation of Business and Professional Women, and the National Association of Democratic Lawyers.
