Lana Stockton

Lana Stockton is a Partner in the Cape Town office and a member of the Shipping and Logistics practice at Bowmans, specialising in Maritime Law. She has assisted in a number of high-profile shipping litigation matters, including the recognition of foreign insolvency orders, structured and forced judicial ship sales, and acting for large multinational banks and financiers.

Lana has been involved in litigation arising from the Hanjin Bankruptcy of 2016/2017, casualty facilitation on behalf of International Group P&I Clubs including collisions, oil spills, cargo contamination and crew injury, as well as general claims, arrests and security for foreign proceedings in the High Court. She has acted for ship-owners, charterers, mortgagee banks, private equity funds and multi-national commodities traders, and has appeared in reported cases including The Forarun Naree, The Seaspan Grouse and The Agatis.

Lana holds a B.Bus.Sci (Hons) and an LL.B. (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town.

She is ranked in Band 3 by Chambers Global for Shipping in South Africa (2025–2026) and recognised as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500 for Shipping and Transport (2025–2026).
