Gerhard Rudolph

Gerhard Rudolph is a Senior Partner at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specializing in Dispute Resolution. He represents and advises clients on a wide range of contentious and risk management issues, including civil litigation, arbitration proceedings, and investigations across South Africa, the African continent, and beyond. He is recognised as one of South Africa's leading construction law specialists and is consistently ranked for his work in insolvency and restructuring.

Gerhard has over 25 years of experience across the mining, energy and infrastructure, financial services, insurance, and restructuring sectors. Notable matters include advising the Kingdom of Lesotho on arbitration disputes relating to a hospital PPP; acting for a global mining major in arbitral and court proceedings in Zimbabwe; advising on the Group Five Ltd business rescue and resolving numerous contentious claims across multiple jurisdictions; representing a major South African bank in defence of court action brought by Transnet relating to interest rate hedging swaps; and acting for the South African Reserve Bank in civil proceedings against illegal deposit‑taking schemes. He has also advised on major construction and infrastructure projects including the Medupi and Kusile Power Station Projects, the CTICC project, and various renewable energy projects. He frequently acts in cross‑border proceedings and has advised clients across Africa, Europe, the UK, US, and Asia.

He holds an LL.B and BLC from the University of Pretoria (1990, 1992) and was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1995. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
