Vlad Movshovich

Vlad Movshovich is a Partner at Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg, recognised as one of South Africa’s leading dispute resolution and international arbitration practitioners. He has represented parties in high‑profile litigation at all levels of the South African court system, including the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, Competition Appeal Court, and Labour Appeal Court, as well as in domestic and international arbitrations under ICSID, LCIA, ICC, PCA, AFSA, and UNCITRAL rules.

He has acted as a judge of the High Court of South Africa on many occasions since 2019 and serves as an arbitrator and adjudicator on various institutional panels. He is a director and Head of the Standards Committee of the African Arbitration Association (AfAA), a member of the ICCA Working Group on African Arbitral Practice, and a faculty member of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy. He has published extensively in the fields of international arbitration, comparative, constitutional, and international law, and has lectured on arbitration and legal subjects at the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, and the University of the Witwatersrand.

Vlad holds an M.Litt (2006) and BCL (cum laude) (2005) from the University of Oxford, an LLB (cum laude) (2004) and BA (cum laude) (2002) from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a Solicitor of the Senior Courts in England and Wales with Higher Rights of Audience (Civil Advocacy). He has been ranked by Chambers Global (2021–2026), Best Lawyers (2020–2026), and Legal 500 (2017–2023, 2025), and was lead attorney of the team that won Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year at the African Legal Awards (2020 and 2022).
