Merlita Kennedy

Merlita Kennedy is a Partner based in Johannesburg. Her primary practice area is Dispute Resolution, and she is a commercial dispute resolution and litigation specialist.

She has extensive experience advising on mining, insurance, medical and healthcare law related matters. She also advises on business crimes and related investigations.

In terms of her industry knowledge in the mining sector, she was seconded for a year to one of the leading South African mining houses' Group Legal team, where she helped the client develop an expedited dispute resolution model to facilitate the speedy and efficient resolution of their legal disputes.

Her recognition includes being named by Best Lawyers 2020–2026 as a leading individual, named by Chambers Global 2007–2009 as "Up and Coming" (Dispute Resolution), and listed in the 5th edition of the Mail & Guardian's Book of South African Women 2009/2010 under the category of Advocates and Attorneys.

She holds a Certificate Course in Anti-Corruption and Commercial Crime Investigation from the University of South Africa (2021), a Certificate in Medical Law from the University of South Africa (2013), an LLB from Stellenbosch University (1997) and a BA from Stellenbosch University (1995). She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
