Mpho Marule

Mpho Marule is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution and Litigation Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and regulatory compliance. He advises clients on complex disputes across the financial services, mining, construction, and energy sectors.

Mpho has advised a financial services regulator in urgent applications against decisions to block accounts and funds for contravening Exchange Control Regulations; in reconsideration and appeal proceedings against administrative penalties and sanctions issued to financial services providers for contraventions of the Mutual Banks Act and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act; and legal entities on the recovery of damages arising from breaches by construction professional teams. He has also advised Rand Merchant Bank and Absa Bank on the financing of a 97.5MWac Solar PV Project supplying electricity to Sasol and Air Liquide, and Rand Merchant Bank on the financing of an 89MW Wind Power Project supplying electricity to Sibanye Stillwater and a 69MW Captive Power Wind Project for Sasol. Additionally, he has advised a private company on the extension of a water concession for a state‑owned water facility, and an investment company on the acquisition of a retail outlet.

Mpho holds an LL.B and a BA (Law) from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of the Republic of South Africa.
