Richard Shein

Richard Shein is a Senior Consultant in the Dispute Resolution Department at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and arbitration. He advises clients on contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, recoveries and enforcement proceedings, representing both listed and unlisted clients, local and offshore, in High Court litigation and private arbitration.

Richard has successfully acted for shareholders of a substantial land development company in arbitration proceedings concerning the valuation of shares; a listed mining company in arbitration proceedings regarding contractual disputes and subsequent enforcement in the High Court; a listed mining company to convert business rescue proceedings into liquidation; a financing business for recovery of amounts owed following a fraud; a multinational ICT company defending a tender review and seeking payment; an international hotel group in disputes with franchisees; and a security services provider in urgent High Court proceedings. He has also represented clients in mediations and international arbitrations, and has advised numerous overseas clients in South Africa. He is known for his hands-on approach, strategic thinking, and commitment to achieving commercially sound outcomes.

Richard holds a BA and LL.B from the University of the Witwatersrand. He joined Bowmans in 2001 as a candidate attorney and was made partner in 2010.
