Gabi Richards-Smith

Gabi Richards-Smith is a Partner in Webber Wentzel's Cape Town office, specialising in Banking and Finance Law with a focus on financial sector legislation. She advises on all aspects of financial regulation, including insurance, collective investment schemes, financial markets, pension funds, and anti‑money laundering.

Prior to joining Webber Wentzel, she was head of sustainability and compliance at a client of the firm, providing her with deep financial services industry understanding. She also previously specialised in banking and finance law and spent time practising in London to obtain experience in English law. Her practice spans both regulatory advisory and transactional work, delivering strategic legal solutions to clients across the financial services sector.

Gabi holds an LL.M (Corporate Law) from the University of Cape Town (2024), an LLB from the University of Cape Town (2008), and a B.Com from the University of Cape Town (2006). She is an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
