Claire van Son

Claire van Son is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution practice at Bowmans in the Johannesburg office, specialising in Dispute Resolution. She advises local and international clients on high-value and complex domestic and cross-border transactions, international and domestic investigations, and commercial disputes, with an emphasis on anti-bribery and corruption investigations, compliance matters, and fraud and asset tracing claims.

Claire has advised a major domestic bank on engagements with the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, a major construction company on Competition Commission complaints before the Constitutional Court, and a sovereign wealth fund on an investigation of fraud and money laundering. She has also represented high-net-worth individuals in defamation claims and an international software company in a High Court claim for damages arising from a data breach. Her broader experience includes advising on financing transactions, project finance and restructuring matters across multiple sectors.

Claire holds an LL.B. (magna cum laude) and a Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Cape Town (2020, 2018).
