Amanda Mfuphi

Amanda Mfuphi is a Partner in the Corporate Department at Bowmans in the Johannesburg office, specialising in Competition Law. He offers clients the benefit of his wealth of knowledge of the South African competition regulatory environment, including his experience working as a senior analyst at the South African Competition Commission, where he worked on some of the most high‑profile and complex transactions, including precedent‑setting matters contested before the Competition Tribunal.

Amanda advises on mergers and the negotiation of conditions with competition authorities, behavioural matters, competition compliance audits, due diligence and training. He has advised across a broad range of sectors including heavy industry, mining, beverages, FMCG, ICT, retail, pharmaceuticals, banking, oil and gas, and manufacturing. Notable matters include advising Vantage Data Centre on its transaction involving AustralianSuper's acquisition of an interest, OpenText Corporation on its acquisition of Micro Focus, Discovery Inc. on its acquisition of WarnerMedia assets, and advising the Takatso Consortium on its proposed acquisition of South African Airways. He is a specialist in South African competition law and has also advised on merger notifications in Botswana, COMESA, Kenya, Namibia and Nigeria.

Amanda holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. from the University of KwaZulu‑Natal, an LL.M. from the University of Notre Dame, and a Post‑Graduate Certificate in Banking and Financial Markets from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and has been nominated as a Non‑Governmental Advisor representative to contribute alongside the South African Competition Commission on working groups of the ICN, OECD and BRICS.
