Daniela Mech

Daniela Mech is an Associate in the Johannesburg office, practicing in the firm's Competition Law practice. She has been involved in various complex competition matters across a broad range of industries, spanning several African jurisdictions, including competition litigation, merger control, and legal advisory work relating to horizontal and vertical restrictive practices, abuse of dominance, and market inquiries.

Ms. Mech has assisted in matters before the South African Competition Tribunal and Competition Appeal Court, as well as the Fair Competition Tribunal in Tanzania, the Competition and Fair-Trading Commission in Malawi, and the Namibian Competition Commission. Notable matters include advising Facebook Inc, WhatsApp Inc, and Facebook South Africa (as part of the Meta Group) in complaint referral proceedings before the South African Competition Commission involving platform terms of use, intellectual property and competition law intersections, and public interest considerations; advising a client in the advertising space in the Media and Digital Platforms Market Inquiry; advising parties in the agribusiness space in obtaining merger clearance in South Africa with a deal value of approximately USD 8 billion; and advising Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV on its intervention in the merger between Sunside Acquisitions and Namibian Breweries and Distell Group.

Daniela holds an LLB and a BCom from the University of the Witwatersrand and is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
