Akisha Maraj

Akisha Maraj is an Associate in the firm's Litigation and Arbitration practice, based in the Johannesburg office, practicing in Dispute Resolution. She has experience in High Court commercial litigation (both trial and motion proceedings), settlement negotiations, mediation, class actions, medical negligence and malpractice claims, and disputes involving pension funds.

Ms. Maraj advises on litigation and dispute resolution in commercial and civil claims, pensions and related aspects of investment management and financial services regulation, healthcare and medical malpractice, and disputes arising from fraud and white-collar misconduct. She has acted for local and international clients across a range of sectors, including representing the largest institutional investor on the JSE in local and Dutch litigation related to accounting irregularities, Africa's largest pension fund in action proceedings for the recovery of a billion Rand claim, a large multinational chemical manufacturer in opposing class action certification, and the world's leading medical indemnity insurer in medicolegal matters and claims.

She holds a Postgraduate LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand, a BA Honours in Psychology (cum laude) from the University of Johannesburg, and a BA (Psychology and Anthropology) from the University of the Witwatersrand. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
