Aidan Scallan

Aidan Scallan is an Executive in the firm's Anti-trust/Competition practice at ENS. He works on competition law matters across South Africa and many other African jurisdictions, including COMESA and CEMAC. He advises on all aspects of competition law, including merger control (including joint ventures), prohibited practices, cartel conduct, dawn raids, abuses of dominance, and corporate leniency policies.

Mr. Scallan has significant expertise working closely with clients on high-profile and complex transactions across a broad range of industries, including financial services, energy, agriculture, gaming, shipping, aviation, telecommunications, mining, online platforms, FMCG, and healthcare. He has acted for parties in numerous contested mergers, including transactions reconsidered by the Competition Tribunal and appealed to the Competition Appeal Court. He previously practiced for several years at a magic circle firm in the United Kingdom, gaining particular insight into complex cross-border M&A transactions. As a result of his international experience, he is well placed to advise clients on South Africa's pending foreign investment protection laws.

Aidan holds a BCom from Rhodes University and an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand, and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He contributes frequently to local and international publications and has presented at numerous conferences on competition law.

He has been recognized by Chambers Global as "Up and Coming" in Competition/Antitrust (South Africa) and by The Legal 500 EMEA as a "Next Generation Partner" in Competition (South Africa).
