Simon Ruff

Simon Ruff is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution and Litigation Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and media law. He handles a wide spectrum of disputes, including contractual disputes, company law matters, media law, cyberlaw, and constitutional issues, ranging from private mediation and arbitration to specialist tribunals and civil courts.

Simon has advised a number of multi-national technology companies on litigious issues in South Africa; Media Monitoring Africa on urgent applications in the High Court protecting media freedoms and numerous complaints to the Press Council; and a multi-national mining company on a wide-spanning action in South Africa. His clients include multinationals and local listed companies across the banking and finance, retail, technology, pharmaceutical, advertising, media, and mining and resources sectors.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, an Honours Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and an LL.B, all from the University of Cape Town, with an additional major in French. He is fluent in English and French.
