Nils Braatvedt

Nils Braatvedt is an Executive in the Employment Law practice at ENS, specialising in employment law, labour dispute resolution, and collective bargaining. He offers clients an end‑to‑end service on any issues relating to employment, including collective bargaining, mergers and acquisitions, dismissals, unfair labour practices, unfair discrimination disputes, retrenchments (including large‑scale retrenchments) and restructuring, transfers of employment in terms of section 197, changes to terms and conditions of employment, and compensation and remuneration.

Nils has developed a speciality in advising on commercial structures, outsourcing, the use of temporary labour, and typical employment structures. He has advised a major mining firm on the collective bargaining implications of amalgamating different mines and successfully interdicting strike action by more than 20,000 employees; represented a global alcoholic beverage manufacturer in demarcation proceedings following an acquisition; and represented a consortium of mining companies in an Essential Services Committee enquiry into whether services at tailings dams should be designated as essential services under the Labour Relations Act. He appears on behalf of clients in the CCMA, various bargaining councils, the Labour Court, the Labour Appeal Court, and the Constitutional Court across a variety of matters.

Nils holds a BSocSci and an LL.B from Rhodes University. He is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
