Mendel Sass

Mendel Sass is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution Department at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in dispute resolution, corporate investigations, and employment law. He assists clients with complex issues requiring investigations, board‑level disputes, executive terminations, and cross‑border representation before law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies.

Mendel has been a lawyer for over 25 years, including more than 20 years at Bowmans, and has served as an acting judge of the Labour Court. He has been involved in some of South Africa's most high‑profile matters, including the King Commission of Inquiry into Cricket Match‑Fixing, the Australian test cricket team ball‑tampering scandal, and the investigation into allegations of racism against Springbok rugby player Eben Etzebeth. He has also advised global clients including Amazon, Old Mutual, Philip Morris, Virgin, and the Open Society Foundations on investigations, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.

Mendel holds a BA from the University of the Western Cape, an LL.B from the University of Cape Town, and a Certificate in Sports Law from the University of Cape Town. He is an associate member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, a member of the South African Society of Labour Lawyers, and a former chairperson of the Legal Practice Council of the Western Cape.
