Lisa Swaine

Lisa Swaine is a Partner based in Johannesburg. Her primary practice area is Insurance Law, and she is a dispute resolution and litigation specialist with extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of insurance.

She has represented and advised local and international underwriters, underwriting managers, brokers and insureds. She provides advice on issues of enterprise risk management, coverage and claims in both the long- and short-term industries.

She provides members of the insurance industry with advice on policy wording, cover and reviews insurance for the purpose of conducting legal due diligence work in relation to corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, Warranty and Indemnity Insurance in relation to corporate transactions, and new projects and ventures.

She also has considerable experience in insurance litigation and dispute resolution in matters relating to mining, construction and engineering, asset insurance and business interruption, casualty and liability, directors and officers liability, commercial crime, cybercrime, transport and cargo, medical and healthcare liability, products liability, and professional negligence.

Her recognition includes being named by Chambers Global 2019–2026 as a ranked lawyer, named by Best Lawyers 2019–2026 as a leading individual, and named by Legal 500 2017 as a legal expert (Mining).

She holds an LLB (1995) and a B.Iuris (1991) from the University of South Africa and a BA from the University of the Witwatersrand (1989). She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
