Johann Scholtz

Johann Scholtz is an Executive Consultant at Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg, specialising in financial services law and regulation. He has extensive experience in high‑profile insider trading investigations, money laundering, market abuse, derivatives, mutual funds, collective investment schemes, asset management, stock exchange and securities law, consumer protection law, and climate change law.

He has represented corporate clients in making representations to regulatory authorities and appearing at enquiries. He has chaired the Association of Banking Lawyers of South Africa and the Insurance Committee of the International Bar Association (2000–2002). He has been ranked by Chambers Global (2016–2026), Best Lawyers (2022–2026), Legal 500 (2017–2022), IFLR1000, and Who's Who Legal for Insurance and Reinsurance, and Environmental – climate change and carbon trading.

He holds an LL.M from Cambridge University (1988), an LL.B (1985), and a BLC (1983) from the University of Pretoria.
