Scott Edmundson

Scott Edmundson is a Partner at Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg, specialising in Banking and Finance Law, with a focus on financing assets in the transportation industries, including ships, aircraft, and rolling stock. He has represented a wide range of parties in South Africa, Africa, and the United Kingdom on domestic and cross‑border bilateral and syndicated transactions.

His experience includes Export Credit Agency (ECA)‑supported financings, high‑value tax‑based and non‑tax‑based lease structures, lease portfolio transfers and reorganisations, limited recourse financing, receivables financing, and off‑balance sheet structures. In the aviation sector, he has advised banks, lessors, airlines, and ECAs on secured loan financing, operating leasing, engine financing, manufacturer support, and export credit transactions. In the rail sector, he has advised train operating companies (TOCs), rolling stock companies (ROSCOs), financiers, ECAs, manufacturers, governments, state‑owned entities, and public and regulatory bodies on rail finance and procurement transactions, including leasing and maintenance arrangements. He has also spent a term abroad working in the banking and finance department of Allen & Overy in London.

Scott holds an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand (1997), a BA from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Higher Diploma in Tax from Rand Afrikaans University (2001), and completed the Programme in Corporate Finance & Business Accounting (cum laude) at Wits Business School. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
