Johann Basson

Johann Basson is an Executive at ENS in the Banking and Finance practice. His practice focuses on Banking and Finance Law.

He specialises in trade finance, acquisition finance, export credit insurance, preference share funding and other general syndicated and bilateral debt/equity financing transactions, both onshore and offshore.

He has acted, amongst others, for lenders (including local and foreign banks), corporate borrowers and foreign law firms, regularly advising on multi-billion Rand transactions. He has also been involved in various debt work-out transactions for distressed borrowers and has acted for South Africa's largest export credit insurer in connection with various projects undertaken throughout Africa. He has also advised banks and structured funds on various cross-border trade and commodity finance transactions and has extensive experience in pension law and corporate and international tax.

He holds a BAcc LLB from the University of Stellenbosch and an MSc in Law & Accounting (with merit) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
