Hoosein Mayet

Hoosein Mayet is an Associate at ENS in the Competition practice, focusing on Competition Law. He specialises in advising clients on various aspects of competition law, including multi-jurisdictional merger notifications, prohibited practices and general compliance.

His experience includes advising on and preparing local and cross-border merger notifications; reviewing and advising on commercial agreements and corporate governance structures from a merger control, abuse of dominance and prohibited practice perspective; reviewing and preparing competition law compliance protocols; and crafting both competition and public interest merger conditions. He has experience in contested litigation in both the merger and prohibited practice contexts.

He is also experienced in drafting legal opinions on competition law compliance, assisting with due diligence investigations, preparing and presenting competition law compliance training, and assisting clients with queries from competition authorities, including in respect of market inquiries. He has worked with businesses across sectors including agricultural, automotive, broadcasting (pay-TV), chemicals (construction), energy, FMCG, logistics, mining, private equity, property, retail (clothing) and TMT.

Hoosein has advised clients in relation to most operational African competition law regimes, including Botswana, COMESA, eSwatini, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

He has authored various competition law-related articles for DealMakers and Business Day, and prepares headnotes for the Butterworths Competition Law Reports.

He holds a BA, an LLB and a Postgraduate Certificate in Competition Law from the University of the Witwatersrand, and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He is a member of the Association of Competition Law Practitioners and the Golden Key International Honour Society.
