Davin Olen

Davin Olen is an Attorney at Dentons in Johannesburg, specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions. He focuses on cross‑border M&A, energy law, data protection, and corporate governance, risk and compliance, and has extensive experience in general commercial law and leading complex projects.

Davin has advised on numerous significant transactions, including advising Card Factory UK on its acquisition of the South African Greeting Card Company; advising Draslovka on its over US$95 million acquisition of the sodium cyanide business from Sasol; advising an acquisition vehicle on a US$7 billion mining acquisition; and supporting one of the largest cross‑border M&A transactions in Africa involving hotel acquisitions across three countries. He also has substantial energy sector experience, advising Eskom on renewable and LNG energy projects, including battery storage, and advising PETROSA on the largest South African offshore gas and condensate joint venture. He has advised global pharmaceutical companies, motor vehicle manufacturers, and a European bank on data protection and compliance, and was project co‑lead for a US$250 million acquisition in the technology services sector.

Davin holds an LL.B and a B.Com in Law (majoring in Economics) from North‑West University, as well as an MPhil (cum laude) and an MM in Finance and Investment (cum laude) from North‑West University and the University of the Witwatersrand respectively. He is currently a PhD candidate in Business Administration at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business. He was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2023.
