Daryl Dingley

Daryl Dingley is a Partner based in Johannesburg. His primary practice area is Competition Law, and he has particular expertise in economics and international trade.

He advises on all aspects of competition law, including merger control, cartel and other prohibited practice investigations, exemption applications and competition law compliance. His knowledge of competition laws extends to many African countries and regional regulators like the COMESA Competition Commission.

He has experience across a wide range of sectors including automotive, construction, fishing, freight, information technology, insurance, mining, pharmaceuticals, property, starch, steel, sugar, telecommunications and transport. He was also formerly a Senior Economist (Head of Case Analysis) at the South African Competition Commission.

His recognition includes being named by Chambers Global 2014–2026 as a ranked lawyer, by Best Lawyers 2011–2026 as a leading individual and Lawyer of the Year for Competition / Antitrust Law 2022, and by Legal 500 2012–2025 as a leading individual and included in their Hall of Fame.

He is a co-author of 'A Practical Guide to the South African Competition Act', published by LexisNexis Butterworths, and a guest lecturer in Economics as part of the LLM and Diploma courses in competition law at the University of the Witwatersrand.

He holds a Master in Law and Economics (EMLE) from the University of Hamburg (2000), an LLB from the University of Cape Town (1998) and a B.Soc.Sci from the University of Cape Town (1994). He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
