Maryanne Angumuthoo

Maryanne Angumuthoo is a Partner in the Competition Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in competition law, merger control, and regulatory compliance. She advises on merger notifications, cartel investigations, leniency applications, and competition compliance audits across industries including healthcare, energy, and chemicals.

Maryanne has advised one of the three large hospital groups in South Africa in the market inquiry into private healthcare; Namib Mills in the first alleged abuse of dominance case by the Namibian Competition Commission; Linde AG on the combination of the businesses of the Linde group and the Praxair group; and I. DuPont de Nemours and Company on the USD 130 billion international merger of equals between DuPont and The Dow Chemical Company. She also advises on the gas regulatory framework in terms of the Gas Act and Regulations, including the gas pricing regime, and has been engaged in High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal review proceedings regarding the gas pricing regime.

Maryanne holds a BA, LL.B, and LL.M from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an LL.M from Duke University School of Law (as a recipient of a World Bank Graduate Scholarship), a Certificate in Competition Law and Advanced Administrative Law from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a Certificate in European Competition Law and Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She has been recognised by Who's Who Legal as a Competition Future Leader in the Partners category (2018–2021) and listed in the Global Competition Review 2018 in the Partners under 45 category.
