Ayanda Msimang

Ayanda Msimang is a Senior Associate in the Johannesburg office, practicing in the firm's Environmental Law and regulatory practice. She specialises in environmental, energy, natural resources, and occupational health and safety law, with a public law focus on energy regulation and broad-based black economic empowerment.

Ms. Msimang advises on all mining, empowerment, environmental, and health and safety regulatory aspects, and provides regulatory support in commercial transactions across sectors including e-commerce, manufacturing, chemicals, telecommunications, logistics, petrochemicals, waste management, agriculture, and renewable energy. She has conducted comprehensive environmental and health and safety compliance audits and regulatory due diligence for major transactions, including the R1.5 billion acquisition of Nampak Glass by Isanti Glass, the R220 million acquisition of Braecroft Timbers by Chep South Africa, and the R5.35 billion sale of Tongaat Hulett's wet millers. She has also advised lenders including Standard Bank, Absa, and Nedbank on regulatory due diligence for renewable energy projects under REIPPPP.

She holds an LLB from the University of the Free State and is a member of the International Association for Impact Assessment South Africa. She has been recognized by Legal 500 as a Leading Associate for Mining in South Africa (2026).
