Wihan Meintjes

Wihan Meintjes is a Partner specialising in international arbitration, particularly within the built environment, with extensive experience in private international arbitrations and investor‑state disputes. He has handled multi‑jurisdictional matters across Africa and globally, including landmark cases involving enforcement of arbitration awards and investment treaty claims for sovereign clients and investors. He serves as regional editor of the Africa Construction Law Blog for the Southern Africa region and is a co‑chairperson of Young AFSA.

He has advised the Government of Lesotho in a high‑value UNCITRAL arbitration involving claims exceeding LSL 2.3 billion (approximately USD 120 million) related to a healthcare PPP, a joint venture between major oil refineries on resolving substantial claims by EPC contractors (quantum in dispute exceeding USD 300 million), and a middle‑eastern state in an ICSID arbitration involving a construction dispute with a Turkish contractor (dispute value approximately USD 231 million). He has also advised on the enforcement of a multi‑million dollar Stockholm‑seated arbitration award across multiple jurisdictions, and advised a mobile provider on a Nigerian‑seated arbitration resulting in the dismissal of a USD 743 million claim.

He holds a BCom (Law) with distinction and an LLB with distinction from the University of Pretoria, as well as an Advanced Post Graduate Certificate in Construction Contracts with distinction from the University of Pretoria. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He was the winner of Delos' EMEA Remote Oral Advocacy Programme in 2023 and the recipient of the 2024 Africa Construction Law Rising Star award. He is recognised as a Next Generation Partner for Construction by The Legal 500 (2026).
