Tim Gordon-Grant

Tim Gordon-Grant is the Senior Litigation Partner in the South African Litigation Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in arbitration and mediation, corporate and commercial litigation, and insolvency law. He provides strategic advice in liability situations, predominantly in the fields of corporate, commercial, banking, auditing and accounting, insurance, and insolvency law, and acts for various large corporate clients on significant matters, many of which involve high-profile public hearings and arbitrations.

Tim has successfully conducted numerous court cases and arbitrations on behalf of major corporate clients. He is currently the lead lawyer for litigation and arbitration matters valued, in aggregate, in excess of ZAR 20 billion, and recently led the team which drafted and finalised the settlement of ZAR 1.2 billion of all the Gautrain arbitration and litigation disputes. He has also acted as a commercial mediator, including a recent settlement reached between Alexander Forbes and Price Forbes, and is frequently called upon to advise boards of companies, including the board of the Discovery Medical Scheme.

Tim holds a BA and an LL.B from the University of the Witwatersrand and is a CEDR qualified mediator.

He has been ranked by Chambers Global for Dispute Resolution for 21 consecutive years, most recently as a Senior Statesman (2023–2026), and was previously ranked in Band 1 (2015–2022). He has been inducted into The Legal 500's Hall of Fame for Dispute Resolution (2021–2026) and has been recognised as Lawyer of the Year for Litigation and Best Lawyer for Arbitration, Mediation, and Litigation by Best Lawyers (2015, 2017). He is described as a "highly sophisticated and experienced dispute resolution lawyer with immeasurable commercial knowledge and expertise".
