Waldo Krige

Waldo Krige is an Associate at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in banking and finance law, commercial litigation, and insolvency and restructuring. He advises a diverse array of local and international clients on a broad spectrum of domestic and cross-border disputes and investigations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, with expertise encompassing corporate investigations, construction, mining, energy disputes, cross-border debt enforcement, insolvency, and business rescue proceedings.

Waldo has advised a major South African construction company in arbitration proceedings seeking damages in excess of ZAR 300 million; a distressed South African supermarket chain in negotiating and implementing a restructuring support agreement to restructure ZAR 4 billion in unsecured debts; a distressed global solar energy solution company and its creditors in restructuring ZAR 1.6 billion in secured debts; a global financial institution in cross-border enforcement proceedings in the High Court of South Africa; and a major South African financial institution on investigations by regulatory, prosecutorial, and taxation authorities relating to derivative trade transactions. He has also advised on the development, financing, construction, and operation of large-scale projects in Africa and the Middle East, with a focus on renewable energy, mining, water, and oil and natural gas industries, and has advised a United States financial institution on the legal and regulatory aspects of structuring and issuing South African securities and data protection requirements.

Waldo holds a BCom and an LL.B with distinction from the University of Pretoria. He is fluent in English and Afrikaans.
