Tumisang Mongae

Tumisang Mongae is a Director at DLA Piper in Johannesburg, specialising in Construction Law and infrastructure dispute resolution. He acts for public and private sector employers and contractors in disputes arising from a wide range of standard form contracts, including FIDIC (Yellow and Red Books), NEC3 and NEC4, JBCC, and various bespoke contracts, across road, rail, coal‑fired power stations, nuclear power stations, hydro‑pumped storage schemes, substations, and other infrastructure projects.

He has advised a listed renewables and coal mining company in pursuing a large claim in relation to tunnel development and infrastructure installation at the Matla Coal Mine, and on the enforcement of a performance guarantee. He also regularly advises on complex infrastructure disputes across the African continent, including Kenya. He is a panel member and facilitator at various arbitration and construction law conferences, including the African Arbitration Association and the University of Johannesburg's Combating Corporate Corruption Summit.

Tumisang holds an LL.B (2005) and an LL.M (2006) from the University of Pretoria, and completed Fundamental FIDIC training (BCA Training, 2011). He is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a member of the Society of Construction Law for Africa. He has been ranked by Chambers Global (2018‑2026) for Construction, recommended by Best Lawyers (2024‑2026) for Construction Law, and recommended by Legal 500 (2023‑2025) for Dispute Resolution.
