Tony Norton

Tony Norton is an Executive at ENS in the Shipping, Ports and Logistics practice, specialising in maritime law.

He has acted for the owners and operators of vessels, trade associations, insurers (including Hull Underwriters and Protection and Indemnity Clubs), mortgagee banks, ships' agents, and clearing and forwarding agents. His experience includes processing and defending maritime claims in the High Court in the exercise of its admiralty jurisdiction, as well as logistics‑related claims. He also protects the interests of owners and operators in maritime casualties, including sinkings, groundings, collisions, marine pollution, salvage and general average situations.

Tony holds a BA, an LL.B (Summa Cum Laude) and a Diploma in Maritime Law from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

He has been a member of the Maritime Law Association of South Africa for over 23 years, including two years as President. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and has served as Chairman of the South African Branch. He is recognised in the Chambers Global Guide for Shipping, has been inducted into The Legal 500 Hall of Fame for Shipping and Transport, and is listed by Who's Who Legal as a Thought Leader Global Elite for Shipping.
