Andrew Pike

Andrew Pike is a Senior Consultant at Bowmans in Durban, where he heads the Ports, Rail and Logistics Sector. He specialises in maritime law, ports and transport regulation, and logistics and infrastructure projects. He has over 40 years' experience in the ports, transport, petrochemicals, and logistics sectors, providing extensive commercial advice, contractual support, and litigation across the full spectrum of shipping and ports matters.

Andrew has acted as Lead Local Counsel on the development and financing of the offshore marine supply base project at Saldanha Bay; as transaction advisor to MSC Cruises on the new cruise terminal concession in Durban; on the viability study and PPP transaction advisory for the proposed new Durban dig‑out port; as legal advisor to the sponsor of an LNG project in Matola, Mozambique; and as Local Counsel to the preferred bidder on the part‑privatisation of Durban Container Terminal, Pier 2. He has also advised on the establishment of LPG storage facilities at Richards Bay, the relocation of liquid bulk storage to the Port of Ngqura, and a feasibility study for a railway transport system and port coal terminal in Mozambique. He also served as a Board Member of the Ports Regulator of South Africa for five years, where he contributed to port economic regulation and legislative development.

Andrew holds a BA and an LL.B from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management of South Africa (FIRMSA), a Past‑President of the Maritime Law Association of South Africa, and a Past‑Board Member of the Ports Regulator of South Africa.

He has been ranked as a Senior Statesman for Shipping by Chambers Global (2026) and has been ranked in Band 1 (2023–2025) and Band 2 (2017–2022) for Shipping. He is a member of the team that was awarded the Transportation and Infrastructure Team of the Year Award at the African Legal Awards (2019), and has been recognised by Who's Who Legal and Best Lawyers.
