Tobie Jordaan

Tobie Jordaan is a Partner at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in bankruptcy and insolvency law, business rescue, and corporate restructuring. He is a commercially minded, pragmatic specialist who represents business rescue practitioners, lenders, and corporate clients across a broad range of industry sectors, including energy, mining and commodities, retail, real estate, telecommunications, and agriculture.

Tobie has advised Airlink (Pty) Ltd as a major creditor in the market-defining ZAR 70 billion business rescue of South African Airways SOC Ltd; the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa in the restructuring of Kalagadi Manganese; the business rescue practitioners of Rebosis Property Fund Ltd in relation to one of the largest business rescues in the market with total liabilities of ZAR 13 billion; the Post Office Retirement Fund as major creditor in the business rescue proceedings of the South African Post Office SOC Ltd; a consortium of landlords in the business rescue proceedings of Edcon as well as advising Retailability in their successful bid to acquire the ongoing business of Edgars from the business rescue practitioners; and the major senior lenders of Ascendis Health Ltd on the implementation of a restructuring plan. He also advises boards of directors on personal liability when facing financial distress and provides strategic advice to ensure directors do not fall foul of their statutory obligations, as well as advising potential investors on the acquisition of distressed assets through business rescue processes and assisting liquidators in insolvency due diligence and enquiries.

Tobie holds a BComm (Law) and an LL.B from the University of Stellenbosch, an Advanced Diploma in Insolvency Law from the University of Pretoria, and an Advanced Short Course in Business Rescue Practice from UNISA.
