Shaaista Tayob

Shaaista Tayob is a highly skilled Associate in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice at ENS, focusing on Technology Law. She has a strong focus on technology, data protection and digital compliance, and advises both local and international clients on complex legal issues relating to information technology, data privacy, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

Shaaista has extensive experience working across diverse industries, including financial services, insurance, telecommunications, retail and software development. Her practice involves structuring and negotiating technology-related transactions, including licensing, outsourcing, software-as-a-service and cloud computing agreements. She has acted as lead Associate on large-scale IT infrastructure and digital transformation projects, ensuring contractual clarity, regulatory compliance and commercial viability.

In the data protection and privacy space, she regularly conducts regulatory compliance audits and privacy gap assessments under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act. She provides strategic advice on cross-border data transfers, information security protocols, data governance frameworks and policy implementation, and her clients value her ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical solutions tailored to their operational realities.

In addition, Shaaista regularly supports M&A and commercial transactions through targeted due diligence on technology assets, IP rights and data-driven business models, ensuring that clients are protected against hidden risks and positioned for long-term compliance.

She holds an LLB from the University of the Free State and an HDip in Taxation from WITS, and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
