Olivia Deckers

Olivia Deckers is a Partner in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in technology law, intellectual property law, and commercial transactions. She advises clients across the consumer goods, financial services, mining, and advertising industries on software and IT systems procurement, IP ownership and commercialisation, technology aspects of M&A transactions, data centre contracts, and general commercial agreements.

Olivia has advised Old Mutual on the procurement of material information technology and telecommunications solutions; Dis‑Chem on the implementation of a SAP GK point of sale system; Famous Brands on the acquisition of POS systems; SAB on its distribution agreement with Red Bull South Africa; Vantage on its entry into South Africa and the construction of a new hyperscale data centre campus in Waterfall; MTN South Africa on international roaming, interconnect, and fixed connectivity arrangements; and NTT Global Data Centers on its agreement with its anchor tenant. She has also advised Alexander Forbes on its sponsorship of the AlexForbes Archangel yacht for the Cape2Rio Race 2023, African Fashion International on its e‑commerce platform, and Capitec on its mobile virtual network operator agreement with Cell C.

Olivia holds a BSc in Marine Biology and Environmental and Geographical Sciences (with distinction), a BSc Honours in Zoology (first class), and an LL.B (magna cum laude) from the University of Cape Town. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

She was part of the Bowmans team that won Technology, Media and Telecommunications Team of the Year at the African Legal Awards in 2018 and 2019.
