Samantha Saffy

Samantha Saffy is a Partner at Bowmans in Johannesburg, where she heads the Commercial Property Practice. She specialises in real estate law, property finance, and mining and property due diligence. Her expertise encompasses commercial property transactions, property developments, project finance, and securities, with significant experience in establishing freehold, sectional title, commercial, industrial, and residential developments across South Africa, as well as registering mortgage and notarial bonds for project and structured finance transactions.

Samantha has advised Harmony Gold Mining Company on its acquisition of AngloGold Ashanti's Moab Khotsong operations, involving the acquisition of over 1,000 immovable properties for residential and mining purposes valued at approximately ZAR 4 billion; Pick n Pay Retailers on the disposal of the Plattekloof and Tableview shopping centres to FPG Holdings (value ZAR 500 million); Capitalworks Private Equity on its share-sale acquisition of The Building Company from Pepkor Holdings (value ZAR 1.2 billion); Barloworld Limited on the acquisition, sale, lease, and development of the Barlow Park development (value ZAR 3 billion); and Norsk Solar on a suite of agreements for the development of solar photovoltaic facilities in Limpopo. She also works closely with the Project Finance and M&A practice, advising on land tenure and security aspects for renewable energy projects, including solar PV, hydro, landfill gas, and wind projects, as well as mining-related transactions.

Samantha holds a BCom and LL.B from the University of the Free State and a Certificate in Prospecting and Mining Law from the University of the Witwatersrand. She is an admitted conveyancer and notary public.

She has been recognised by Best Lawyers 2017 for Real Estate Law and is described by The Legal 500 2024 as a practitioner who "stands out" and "builds good relationships with clients and shows understanding of their needs".
