Reuben Pretorius

Reuben Pretorius is an Associate at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in tax law, mergers and acquisitions, and customs and excise. He advises on corporate tax, exchange control, and tax dispute resolution, and has been involved in litigating several large income tax, tax administration, and customs and excise disputes.

Reuben has advised multinational enterprises on obtaining tariff determinations under the Customs and Excise Act, 91 of 1964, and on disputes with the South African Revenue Service; on the exchange control implications of both outbound and inbound investments; on the corporate tax consequences of various corporate restructures; on general income tax disputes with SARS; on diesel rebate and refined petroleum product disputes; and on trust structuring for tax efficiency and compliance.

Reuben holds a BCom LL.B from Varsity College and a post-graduate LL.B from the University of Stellenbosch, and is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an admitted attorney of the Republic of South Africa (Law Society of South Africa).
